FAQs

Could you describe a Miniature Donkey's character?

Yes - Wonderful! They are perpetual foals who love to play. They are affectionate and loyal. They love human attention and are very sociable creatures. They have a real NEED to please.

Is it true that donkeys are stubborn?

No, just very cautious. They will stop and assess a situation first, not like a horse who will take flight.

What can a Miniature Donkey do?

They are very easily trained to pull a cart or carry panniers. They will happily walk miles with you if allowed to nibble at the hedgerow from time to time! Showing can be fun. Because of their gentle nature they are great with young and old alike. Taken to a nursing home or school fete they will give enormous pleasure because of their temperament and love of people.

How long will a Miniature Donkey live?

Given the right care and attention they can live up to 45 years. This is obviously something to take into consideration if you are thinking of buying one.

What size field will a Miniature Donkey need?

A minimum of about one acre for 2 Miniature Donkeys. In the spring and summer even this will need to be restricted if the grazing is very rich. Donkeys do need room to run around and play. Given an old wellington boot they will play tug of war for hours!
